“She Can’t Be That F@cking Broke!” Footy Fans Fume As Katy Perry Menulog Ad “Ruins State Of Origin!”

Footy fans don’t like their game interrupted at the best of times, however, there’s fury among some NRL supporters this morning after it was claimed Katy Perry’s all-singing ad for Menulog was overplayed during last night’s Origin coverage on broadcaster Nine.

The cheesy spot for the Australian-born delivery service sees Perry remake the brand’s famous “Did Somebody Say” song. The ad’s the work of McCann London.

However, fans were none too happy about the ad popping up in every break in last night’s first Origin match, some going as far as to say as it had “ruined the game!”

One fan joked: “I’ve seen more of Katy Perry tonight than I have of [NSW star] Nathan Cleary.”

“Katy Perry and her Menulog ad has officially ruined State of Origin,” another penned.

Another tweeted: “Not sure what’s more annoying, Channel Nine coverage or the Katy Perry Menulog ad.”

“I don’t know what was worse. That NRL pre-game ‘entertainment’ or that Katy Perry Menulog ad…wow…,” said another.

Another quipped: “Watching Katy Perry dance and sing as a block of cheese every ad break forced me to take up heroin.”

Others questioned Perry’s motivation to appear in the ad. “Perry can’t be that fucking broke?!” said one angry fan.

B&T has contacted Nine over the ad and to see if it received any unfavourable feedback from viewers, however a spokesperson declined the opportunity to comment.

For the record, Queensland won the game 16-10 with Nine’s coverage pulling 1.7 million OzTAM metro viewers. The numbers were down about 140,000 on 2021’s opener.

Yesterday, Nine named Menulog among a host of sponsors for this year’s Origin series. Other brands included Harvey Norman, Telstra, Sportsbet, McDonald’s, Stan, Isuzu and UPI.
