10 Secures Rights To Oprah’s Meghan And Harry Interview

The interview, which is set to detail the couple’s departure from the UK and recent battles with the press, will air in the US on Sunday and in Australia on Monday 8th March.

It will air at 7.30 AEDT on Channel 10, as well on 10Play, and is reportedly two and a half hours long. Originally, the program was scheduled to run for ninety minutes but was later extended.

How much 10 paid for distribution rights is unclear, though the Daily Mail reported that UK network ITV allegedly paid $1.78 million for them.

The interview will initially premiere in the US on CBS Television, which owns Network 10.

A trailer for the program aired last week, which saw Prince Harry describe the reason for the couple’s flight from the UK as fear of “history repeating itself” after his mother Princess Diana’s death.

In a clip from the interview, he tells Winfrey, “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago.”

The interview comes on the back of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, being awarded $800,000 towards her legal fees in her privacy case against the Mail On Sunday.

Earlier this week, a one-on-one interview between Prince Harry and James Corden was released. He told Corden that, “we all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health.”

“I was like, this is toxic. So I did what any husband and what any father would do.”

Markle’s treatment by the British press has been described by commentators as overtly racist and sexist.

In Oprah Winfrey’s special, Markle is shown with a visible baby bump. This is her second pregnancy after the birth of the couple’s son Archie in 2019.
