“Brainwash Much?”: US Channel Newsmax Airs Ads For ‘The Kids Guide to President Trump’

Criticised as far-right propaganda, an advert promoting the book The Kids Guide to President Trump has been airing on conservative US news channel, Newsmax.

The Kids Guide to President Trump (the lack of apostrophe in ‘Kids’ is the publisher’s error) was produced by former governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, who is the father of former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Huckabee is known for his ardently pro-Trump stance.

The advert promises that the book will “help your family to celebrate President Trump and all he’s accomplished as our president,” as well as “help your kids learn all about the president’s greatest achievements.”

What achievements the book will list are not clarified, though recipients will also receive a free kids’ magazine and free video lesson.

It is unclear whether the material will cover content like the former President’s ban on Muslims entering the USA, along with his ban on transgender people participating in the military, his as yet unfulfilled promise to build a wall between Mexico and the United States, his suggestion of injecting disinfectant to cure COVID-19, or the numerous sexual misconduct allegations made against him.

The advert has received much traction on Twitter, where one user referred to it as “cult level shit.”

The book was created by EverBright Media, which published a number of guides for children such as The Kids Guide To The Free Markets, which has cover art depicting a store with a banner reading ‘We <3 Capitalism’.

Other titles include The Kids Guide To One Nation Under God and The Kids Guide To The Presidential Election (again, the lack of apostrophes here is a choice of the publishers, not B&T).

EverBright has created a number of series, including ‘Learn Our History: Take Pride in America’s Past’ (also founded by Mike Huckabee) and ‘Family Bible Films.’

The company was accused of scamming in July 2020 when parents were unknowingly signed up to a $20-per-month subscription. A number of parents said their requests for the subscription to be cancelled were ignored.

At the time, EverBright told The Huffington Post that “we are a subscription education company, and across our various websites,…we explain how our subscription offers work to our customers.”

An official Facebook post from June promoting the book reads, ‘the mainstream media doesn’t want you your children to know the truth about President Trump and his achievements in office. That’s why we created The Kids Guide To Donald Trump.’

One comment on the post reads, “better hurry up and teach this “history” lesson before the Democratic Marxist tear down all of our system and heritage’, while another says, “great for kids at home due to Covid. Undo some of the public school damage.”

While the book was initially published in June, the advert has reportedly been circulating on Newsmax this month.
