Foxtel Asks Cricket Australia For Discount

Cricket Australia’s woes look set to continue, with broadcast partner Foxtel reportedly pushing for a discount on the upcoming summer of cricket.

According to The Australian Financial Review, Foxtel has accused Cricket Australia of favouring India’s cricket body ahead of local broadcasters and is now considering withholding its payment to the game’s governing body, which is due this week.

Foxtel is also said to share Seven’s belief – that the quality of this year’s Big Bash League will be diminished as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic limiting crowds and not allowing international players to participate.

Foxtel is not looking to terminate its broadcast deal, according to the reports, as Seven is.

Last week Seven confirmed it was looking to terminate its $450 million broadcast deal with Cricket Australia.

Seven has publicly criticised Cricket Australia in recent months, including CEO James Warburton labelling it “the most incompetent administration I’ve ever worked with”.

Cricket Australia has maintained it can deliver an adequate product this summer, despite the pressures of COVID-19.

“Cricket Australia remains in ongoing discussions with the Seven Network about delivering a compelling summer of cricket,” CA told the Telegraph last week.

“CA is committed to fulfilling its contractual obligations to all its partners this season.”
