Government Pulls Controversial ‘Coronavirus’ Logo

The Federal Government has sensationally pulled a controversial new national logo, according to reports.

The Australian has revealed the logo is currently being ‘redesigned’ by the government, after the original version of the Golden Wattle graphic was widely condemned, particularly for its visual likeness to a virus.

However, the Golden Wattle theme is expected to remain in the next version of the logo.

Revealed last month, the design of the logo was overseen by the National Advisory Council, which includes business leaders such as mining magnate Andrew Forrest, Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.

It has been reported the price tag for the new logo was around $10 million.

There was initially some confusion around the role of the new Wattle-inspired logo.

Many believed it would replace the famous Australian Made Kangaroo, however, it has since been confirmed the Wattle will replace the current Australia Unlimited logo, which consists of two boomerangs creating an outline of Australia (see below).

The Brand Advisory Council initially said it hoped to create a logo to help change global perceptions about Australia’s business capabilities.

“There is an opportunity to increase foreign investment if we can strengthen awareness of our products and services overseas,” the Council said in a report.

    1. Hard to believe the Brand Advisory Council could get it so wrong, but I guess none of them have any skin in the game, and what’s another $10 million?
