Korean Speed Skater Shim Suk-Hee Stars In Nike’s Latest Masterpiece

Nike’s never-ending roll-out of inspiring sports ads continues with new work out of South Korea.

The ad stars the Olympic gold medal winning speedskater Shim Suk-hee who became a national treasure in her homeland after she revealed she’d been sexually abused by a coach, at just 17 years of age, prior to winning gold at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games.

Nike’s creative agency Wielden+Kennedy handed over complete artistic freedom to London-based filmmakers Crowns & Owls for the 30-second spot who had to construct a huge concrete tunnel at one of South Korea’s largest indoor ice rinks to film the ad.

Check out the work below:

Commenting on the TVC, a Crowns & Owls spokesperson said: “Shim Suk-hee is someone whose bravery in confronting her experience with systematic physical, sexual and mental abuse within 2019 South Korean sport triggered a widespread movement, forever changing legislation and discourse around the subject.”
