Heinz Baked Beans Ad Gets Pulled After False Nutrition Claims

Heinz Baked Beans Ad Gets Pulled After False Nutrition Claims

A Heinz baked beans ad in the UK has been pulled after it likened the nutritional value of the beans to a sports protein shake.

The ad showed a man arriving home to his family and taking a drink from the fridge which he described as having a shake “supercharged with high fibre and minimal fat”. To which his wife replies: “Same. We’re just having some beans.” Check out the offending spot below:

However, three viewers complained about the ad’s claim that beans are “high in protein. High in fibre. Low in fat” and are equivalent to drinking a protein shake.

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said Heinz had provided evidence to support its claims, which were allowed in the ad but decided that it was wrong to suggest beans had an equivalent protein and nutrition value to a shake and promptly had the ad pulled.

A Heinz spokesperson agreed the ad did not “fully meet advertising requirements” and added the campaign would be amended and return to UK TV screens.
