Nine Chief Digital Officer Alex Parsons Heads For The Exits

Nine’s Alex Parsons has announced he is leaving the business after a three-year tenure leading its digital operations.

Parson’s decision comes after more than a decade with Nine, where he has held various senior roles, including as the CEO of RateCity, managing director of Ninemsn and as a director of Nine subsidiaries Pedestrian.TV and CarAdvice.

For the past three years, Parsons has led Nine’s digital operations, overseeing its transformation from the Mi9 joint venture with Microsoft, to a standalone independent business in the form of Nine Digital.

“After an amazing experience working with the most passionate media folks in Australia here at Nine, it’s time for a new challenge,” Parsons said.

“I’m immensely proud of everything my team has achieved, particularly in getting nine.com.au back to the top of the commercial news rankings, launching the 9Honey women’s network, launching 9Now and developing our data asset, which now has more than four million subscribers.

“I’m confident that I’m leaving the digital business in good shape and that it will continue to be a key player in the Australian digital landscape for years to come.”

Nine CEO Hugh Marks said Parsons has made an enormous contribution to the growth and evolution of the business.

“He has successfully evolved Nine Digital from the business, built around the long-term Microsoft joint venture arrangement, to the growing content and platform business it is today,” he said.

“I would like to thank him for his time and energy.”

Parsons will leave the business at the end of the month, with his duties in the short term to be assumed by existing managers across the business.

As part of the business evolution of Nine Digital, Helen McCabe will take on the new title of digital content director.
