News Corp Cans Print Insert ‘Sunday Style’ For More Unisex ‘Stellar’

News Corp, at a sydney breakfast this morning, announced a new weekend magazine called Stellar to be inserted in its Sunday newspapers in the eastern states and will replace the current insert Sunday Style.

Packed with inspiring stories, entertainment and lifestyle content alongside 10-pages of food content from delicious., Stellar is not only a comprehensive Sunday read, but News says it will become Australia’s biggest glossy magazine.

Stellar will be available from Sunday August 28 with the purchase of The Sunday Telegraph (NSW), Sunday Herald Sun (VIC) and The Sunday Mail (QLD), which combined reach upwards of 2.9million Australians a week.

News Corp Australia’s managing director – metro and regional publishing Damian Eales said: “Sunday is our largest audience day and has long been an important day for advertisers as we know people are more receptive to brand messaging when they are in a relaxed mindset.

“The launch of Stellar is a huge investment in our Sunday audience; not only are we providing more relevant and more engaging content for our readers, advertisers now have the opportunity to reach readers every week in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. No other weekend magazine can match that.

Stellar completes our Sunday offering; and together with the enhanced body+soul and Escape magazines that relaunched earlier this year, provides the most compelling Sunday read in the market.”

Sarrah Le Marquand has been appointed to the role of editor-in-chief of Stellar. The News Corp columnist, editor of the opinion site RendezView and a former features editor and opinion editor of The Daily Telegraph, starts her new role on Monday July 4.

Of her appointment Le Marquand said: “I’m looking forward to taking the reins of Stellar and creating a product that draws on the country’s best photographers and most senior writers. Stellar will have a unique mix of both flair and substance, but with an edge, and readers can expect the unexpected every Sunday.

“Our content will deliver an entertaining mix of news and celebrity features, lifestyle content assembled by Australia’s best fashion and beauty team, and then a second-to-none supplement catering to all things food.”

Kerrie McCallum is the editorial director of Stellar in addition to her role as editor-in-chief of delicious. Each week Stellar will include 10 pages of original recipes, reviews and commentary under the banner of ‘delicious on Sunday’ as overseen by McCallum.

Stellar will feature editorial from some of News Corp Australia’s best news breakers, feature writers and investigative reporters from across the country such as Claire Harvey and Jordan Baker (NSW), Frances Whiting and Matt Condon (QLD) and Patrick Carlyon, Andrew Rule and Ruth Lamperd (VIC); along with a broad range of respected contributors and content across the key pillars of lifestyle, food and home including design and style guru Neale Whitaker; the best in beauty and travel with Cleo Glyde; fashion editor and stylist Marina Afonina; leading food editor and best-selling cookbook author, Donna Hay; food and restaurant critic Matt Preston; foodies Hayden Quinn and Silvia Colloca; and top chefs Matt Moran, Colin Fassnidge and Shannon Bennett.

The launch of Stellar is being supported with a $6 million multi-channel marketing campaign that will run across TV, radio, print, digital and social channels.

The final issue of Sunday Style will appear in The Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Herald Sun on August 21.
