Peter Beattie is fast becoming a master in the art of media blunders, with the Commonwealth Games chairman outdoing himself once again.
Beattie was interviewed on Nine’s Today show yesterday morning about the outrage surrounding the broadcast coverage of the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, before host Karl Stefanovic encouraged him to usher over a little boy who was standing in the background.
The former politican obliged, calling the kid over and noticing his red and blue striped sports jersey, before saying to him, “You’re obviously a Knights supporter”.
However, the jersey the boy was wearing wasn’t of the Newcastle Knights rugby league team, but of footballing powerhouse Barcelona, and Stefanovic sure pointed it out, making for an awkward end to the interview.

It was yet another embarrassing blunder for the newly-appointed chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, who failed to recognise the Cronulla Sharks as an NRL team in a recent interview on Nine’s 100% Footy.

Beattie also got caught out recently by yours truly after sharing out one of B&T’s Commonwealth Games stories on Twitter without realising our borderline inappropriate humour.
