The Hallway’s Chris Murphy Launches New YouTube Channel For Adland Newbies

A new YouTube channel aimed at providing practical tips for new talent wanting to break into the advertising industry has been launched by The Hallway’s senior account director, Chris Murphy (main photo).

Murphy created ‘Sh*t. What now?’ after recognising there was no resource tailored to young people that addresses the opportunities open to them and the challenges they may face in pursuing an advertising career.

Each week he interviews people at both ends of the advertising spectrum, from C-suite industry leaders, to talented new entrants, in order to get an insight of what young people need to do to land their dream job in advertising.

He said: “Advertising has always had an accessibility issue and to some degree it has hindered top talent from breaking into the industry. This initiative is designed to provide inside tips to help young people find their path sooner and land a career they love instead of a job they’ll hate. This is a small step in taking on an industry-wide issue but some great people have put their hands up to take part and so I’m excited to see where this goes.”

Episodes are released weekly and include speakers from around the world, including Australia, the UK and USA. Current episodes feature Dentsu X UK CEO, Beth Freedman, The Hallway’s junior copywriter Casey Clarke and junior planner, Ben Trini.

Jules Hall, CEO of The Hallway added: “We couldn’t be prouder of Chris for creating a practical resource for the next generation of advertising talent. Our industry is built on attracting the best and the brightest and what Chris is doing will certainly help those thinking about a career in advertising to get their foot in the door.”
