UM Retains Kmart Media Communications Account

UM has won the media communications portfolio for Kmart after a competitive pitch process that began at the beginning of 2019.

CEO of UM Australia, Fiona Johnston (featured image) said: “We are over the moon to have won back such a great cultural icon as Kmart.

“We fought very hard for this against amazing competition and we have had to show how we can be better, and that is what we have done.”

Johnston added: “This was not a retention, this was a battle for us to prove what we can do, how we can do it and evolve at the right pace.

“To be as great as ever and better than before.

“I am immensely proud of Gareth Nicholls and the whole Melbourne team, to be supporting such great clients and a true Aussie icon.

“We take this win with immense pride and commitment not to let Kmart down.”

Over its 50-year history Kmart has revolutionised the way Australians and New Zealanders shop.

Today, Kmart has more than 200 stores across Australia and New Zealand and is recognised as one of the most profitable discount department stores in Australia.

The business employs about 30,000 team members and is based in Mulgrave, Victoria.

UM has been Kmart’s media communications partner for the past 14 years and therefore the incumbent in the full-pitch process that narrowed to two agencies in the final decision.
