Nielsen: Almost 11 Million Aussies Accessed Sport Online In January

The intense heat aside, if there’s one thing the month of January delivers in Australia in spades it’s sport, sport and even more sport.

And now new data from Nielsen Digital Ratings for the month found that 10.9 million adult Australians consumed online sport content, an increase of 3.7 per cent when compared with the previous year.

Despite more people, the average time per person decreased by 2.8 per cent compared to last year to 1 hour and 38 minutes per person in January 2018.

For sport-related content, smartphone was the device of choice for 6.2 million adult Australians (up 15.8 per cent compared with the previous year), followed by desktop with almost 5.9 million adult Australians. However, desktop saw a decline in usage by 7.5 per cent when compared with the prior year. Tablet devices were used by a unique audience of 2.9 million, up 6.3 per cent when compared with prior year.
