To honour the fantastic feats of the Australian Paralympians, Hootsuite has revealed the top trending hashtags and social media data of the Paralympics.
The top trending hashtag during the Paralympics period, #tokyo2020, received over 38,000 tweets and retweets, amounting to 1.7M+ impressions, while other popular hashtags included #paralympics, #readysettokyo and #paraswimming.
According to Hootsuite’s research, the most mentioned tweeters included @ausparalympics, @paralympics, @dylanalcott, @tokyo2020 and @kurtfearnley. The green (💚) and yellow (💛) hearts and gold medal (🏅) were the most used emojis in tweets discussing the Paralympics, with over 3,000 mentions recorded for each.
Across the Tokyo 2020 Paralymic Games there were more than 57,000 social media mentions, while tennis player Dylan Alcott’s (pictured) gold and silver medal wins in particular drew significant traction. There were a total of 3,832 mentions peaking on 3 Sept following his post medal ceremony interview.
Wheelchair racer Kurt Fearnley received 1,722 mentions on social media during the games with mentions peaking on 4 Sept during the marathon.
The @AUSParalympics Twitter account achieved 9,756 mentions, peaking on 24 August during the opening ceremony with a second peak on 4 September, following Madison de Rozario’s win in the marathon event.
