Foxtel has breached broadcasting rules after it ran an ad for marriage equality but failed to proper acknowledge where the politicised ad had come from.
The ad titled Marriage Equality: It’s Only Fair showed everyday gay people – a lifesaver, a soldier and a doctor – who were unable to marry.
Check out the offending ad below:
However, because the ad was deemed political it falls under the Broadcasting Services Act and should’ve included the organisation that authorised the ad, where its office is headquartered and the name of every speaker in the ad.
Foxtel has said its actions were unintentional and wants the decision dismissed by the The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). What fines, if any, Foxtel will face is unclear.
