Cristiano Ronaldo Removes Coke Bottles From Presser, Stings The Brand $5.2 Billion In Marketing

Soccer Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo removed coke bottles from his table at a press conference, and now Coca-Cola is worth a few billion dollars less.

Ronaldo is known for his strict and healthy diet was at a Euro 2020 press conference when he removed the coke bottles in front of him and said the already famous words “drink water”.

Ronald’s coach, Fernando Santos, who was sitting beside the champion player, left the two coke bottles in front of him.

The coke bottles would have been strategically placed in front of the player and his coach because Coca-Cola is a sponsor of the event.

The removal of the coke bottles has since made worldwide news and has real consequences for Coca-Cola.

According to news.com.au, the stunt has cost the most well-known soft drink brand $5.2 billion.

The Athletic reported that Coca-Cola’s shares were worth C$56.1 each when the market opened in Europe on Monday, but by the time the press conference wrapped up, they had already fallen to C$55.2 each.

Which is a pretty big drop.

According to The Athletic, Coca-Cola responded and said “everyone is entitled to their drink preferences” and that everyone has different “tastes and needs.”

Coca-Cola’s shares have since bounced back to C$55.29 a share.
