Matt and Jo Show bows out, as Sandilands to Nova rumours start

UPDATED: Melbourne’s Fox FM breakfast duo, Matt Tilley and Jo Stanley, are calling it quits at the end of the year after a decade on-air together.

Also leaving the station is The Matt and Jo Show’s anchor Troy Ellis, who has been with Fox for 20 years, with all three to remain with Fox until the end of the year.

The Matt and Jo Show is the second Melbourne breakfast team to announce their departure this year with Nova 100’s 12-year program Hughesy & Kate announcing their decision to leave last month.

Stanley said that the team made the decision to leave together: “because, after a decade, its time for new challenges”.

In the latest round of radio ratings The Matt and Jo Show took 7.9% of Melbourne’s breakfast listeners to sit behind Nova 100 and Triple M after a half point drop.

At the time Southern Cross Austereo’s chief content officer told B&T that the program is “slightly challenged at the moment so we are having a really good look at that”.

“We are having a good look at the context of that show, the style of the show. Not necessarily the players but just looking at where that show sits relative to the brand,” he added. For more click here.

The Matt and Jo Show claimed number one FM breakfast team in Melbourne for six consecutive years.

Dave Cameron, Fox FM content director, said: “It's been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with such a successful and amazing team that has been relentless in its pursuit of entertainment excellence, making it the most successful FM breakfast show in Melbourne over the last decade.”

Meanwhile, there are rumours swirling around the Kyle & Jackie O Show in Sydney.

Kyle Sandilands and co-host Jackie O are rumoured to be considering a switch from 2DayFM to rival Nova, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The report covers whispers that if Kyle & Jackie O move to Nova breakfast, current two-year old breakfast program Fitzy & Wippa would be moved to drive. The current networked drive program – Meshel, Tim and Marty – would the reportedly be shifted to Melbourne’s breakfast.

Nova has denied the rumours. Paul Jackson, DMG Radio's group programme director, said: “There is absolutely no truth to the rumour that the Nova Network is talking to Kyle Sandilands in any capacity.”
