Erin Molan Wins Defamation Case Against The Daily Mail Australia

Erin Molan has won her defamation case against The Daily Mail Australia.

The journalist, radio host and Sky News host, sued the Daily Mail Australia for defamation, claiming that an article and two separate tweets portrayed her as racist.

The defamation case stems from The Daily Mail Australia reporting on Molan’s mispronunciation of Polynesian names. Molan claimed in court that their coverage of Molan’s mistake painted her as “racist,” and ultimately defamed her.

The Daily Mail Australia were arguing a truth defence.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that Justice Robert Bromwich found that the publisher had made five imputations that were not proven to be substantially true in regard to the online article.

The Daily Mail Australia now must pay Molan $150,000 in damages plus interest.

Molan’s win follows a large trend of individuals winning against publications. From Rebel Wilson being awarded a record amount after suing Bauer Media to Geoffrey Rush winning against News Corp.
