Canva Signs Multi-Year Sports Sponsorship Agreements

Aussie start-up success, Canva, has dived into the sports industry by partnering with A-League club Melbourne Victory and NFL team Philadelphia Eagles.

Canva has been one of the most successful start-up companies in Australia, as they were recently valued higher than some of the countries most well-known names, such as Coles or Telstra.

Taking this into consideration, their latest movements in the financial world should come as no surprise to anyone.

The company have recently announced that they’ve signed agreements with sports outfits Melbourne Victory and Philadelphia Eagles, making their first moves in the world of sports.

This way Canva becomes the A-League club’s inaugural design partner, with the team’s officials creating a campaign in celebration of the agreement called #DesignOurAway Kit which gave fans the opportunity to submit their own ideas about what next season’s third outfit for the team should look like, using the website’s tools.

The campaign was highly successful, as pointed out by the club’s managing director, Caroline Carnegie: “Canva are the perfect partner for Melbourne Victory as both organisations strive to be at the forefront of design, innovation and technology. The club has, for some time, used Canva’s suite of powerful tools across digital, social and print and through the #DesignOurAway Kit competition, we have extended this to our fans. The competition has had an overwhelming response, in terms of designs and votes, and we are excited to announce our first-ever fan away jersey, designed by the fans and voted on by the Victory family.”

The winning outfit was designed and submitted by a user called Anthony B.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who also have a strong Australian presence, with four players in their squad coming from the land down under, also shared their excitement for the completion of this new deal.

The US-based team’s vice-president of revenue and strategy, Catherine Carlson – who is also Australian – pointed out: “I‘m genuinely excited to welcome Canva as a partner of the Philadelphia Eagles, especially because I’m Australian so I’m a bit biased, but we quickly realised their online design platform was very relevant for our fans who engage with us on digital platforms and social media.

“Our fans are crazy, they bleed green, and it’s going to be really fun seeing how our fans use the platform.”

Jen Kavanagh, senior vice-president of marketing and strategy for the NFL club added: “We pride ourselves on the connection we have with our passionate and global fanbase. In this rapidly evolving digital world, we are always looking for innovative and compelling ways, to engage with our fans and business community.

“Canva’s creative tools and platform have empowered us to enhance and personalise our visual communications while maintaining our brand consistency.”

Canva’s representatives pointed out that it will continue to find ways to engage with sports fans while giving professionals the tools they need to stay up-to-date with the industry’s latest trends.
