Alexa Reads Scarlett Johansson’s Mind In New Amazon Super Bowl Ad

We’ve all been there, those eerie moments where our various devices present us with a situation so serendipitous, it’s as though our minds are being read.

The singularity’s covert existence has often been debated and pondered over by the likes of conspiracy theorists, stoners, crypto bros, and habitual listeners of The Joe Rogan Experience.

Now it seems marketers, and big tech itself, have also clued in to these digital age anxieties, with Amazon’s commercial for the upcoming Super Bowl broadcast showcasing a couple grappling with a loquacious and psychic Alexa operating system.

The couple, played by Scarlett Johansson and real-life husband, Colin Jost, are shown enjoying Alexa’s capabilities, which includes chilling wine and closing blinds before the Super Bowl game.

However, Alexa literally begins reading their minds, resulting in some hilarious moments – Alexa orders mouth wash after Jost innocently turns away from his wife’s mouth; Alexa sets a reminder for Jost to fake his own death after he shows polite interest in Johansson’s one-person show; Alexa plays Fleetwood Mac’s “Little Lies” after Johansson ensures her hubby filming sex scenes are “the worst”.

Naturally, the couple conclude that it’s “probably better” Alexa can’t read her users’ minds.

The ad – which Jeff Bezos himself introduced on Twitter – marks the seventh year Alexa has made a Super Bowl commercial appearance.

Last year’s commercial saw Alexa take the form of Hollywood hunk, Michael B. Jordan, who became Alexa’s human embodiment, much to the delight of the ad’s female protagonist, and the amusing chagrin of her husband.

A 60-second spot of Amazon’s “Mind Reader” commercial will air during the Super Bowl LVI broadcast on Monday, February 13.
