Nike Gives Head Office Staff A Week Off In The Name Of Mental Health

Sneaker giant Nike has closed its offices for a week to give its staff a mental health break.

Nike’s announcement is following in the footsteps of companies like the dating app Bumble, which implemented a week-long vacation for its employees in June. Linkedin also announced in April it would give most of its employees a week of paid leave.

Nike’s mental health week also won’t be taken out of its employee’s annual leave. Seemingly, big companies are investing in the well-being of their staff and acknowledging the strain the pandemic has taken on individuals.

This makes sense considering a study by the CDC  has found anxiety and depression increased during the pandemic.

In a now-viral Linkedin post, a senior manager of global marketing science at Nike, Matt Marrazzo, said:

“In just about an hour, teams at Nike will start closing their laptops for our regular Summer Friday hours. But today is extra special.

“Nike HQ is also powering down for a full week off starting next Monday. Our senior leaders are all sending a clear message: Take the time to unwind, destress and spend time with your loved ones. Do not work.”

The post has since received over 24 thousand likes.
