Last month, triple j Unearthed shared the 2021 DIY Supergroup sample pack, featuring musical parts made by some of the heaviest hitters in Australian music. After listening to hundreds of incredibly unique songs, triple j Unearthed have selected Brisbane producer Moss as the winner for 2021’s DIY Supergroup competition.

The self-described Wadawurrung man of mystery blew the triple j Unearthed team away with his track ‘SABRE TEETH’.

triple j Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe said “Moss’ track was honestly electrifying from the first listen. His beats go toe-to-toe in intensity with Genesis Owusu’s defiant raps for a dramatic trap song in the vein of RL Grime and Slumberjack. There’s big build ups and bigger breakdowns and an almighty didgeridoo-gone-EDM solo.”

The DIY Supergroup zip-folder contained vocals, riffs, beats and bars from the likes of Gang of Youths, Lime Cordiale, Alison Wonderland, Genesis Owusu, San Cisco, Vallis Alps and Touch Sensitive. The brief was simple: create your own musical masterpiece.

Whilst artists were tasked with using sounds from at least three artists, Moss went above and beyond and used five different samples. More impressive yet, he made the track within 48 hours!

Forming the base of the song are claps from Touch Sensitive, San Cisco synths, an organ from Vallis Alps and of one of Alison Wonderland’s signature harps. Front and centre are the huge bars from Genesis Owusu, which Moss was immediately drawn to as inspiration for the track.

“The Genesis Owusu vocal stem shares such a powerful message and as an Indigenous person and artist, I wanted to connect and tie in with that to help tell the story with some of my own heritage,” Moss explained.

Congratulations to Moss and the DIY Supergroup finalists Apricot Ink, Dave Winnel, Sad face. and Stellie whose entries were incredibly impressive!
