The 2021 TV ratings season have begun; however, someone forgot to tell the viewers who still seem to be on their summer siesta, resulting in some strangely lean numbers last night. Although things should liven up with the start of the Australian Open today.

No program went over the magic million last night, with Seven’s 6pm news the most watched show of the evening with 914,000 viewers according to OzTAM metro numbers.

In the battle of the entertainment shows, Seven’s Holey Moley took bragging rights with 629,000; hardly numbers to thrill TV bosses and it was beaten by Nine’s 60 Minutes in the same time slot.

10’s The Amazing Race did 541,000 and Nine’s The Trump Show: Downfall did 512,000.

Nine did enough to win the night, taking home 29.1 per cent of all of last night’s eyeballs. Seven was a close second with 27.8 per cent, 10 did 19.3 per cent, the ABC had 16.5 per cent and SBS pulled 7.2 per cent.

Other standouts for Nine were its 6pm news (901,000), 60 Minutes (761,000) and its late edition news (309,000).

Seven did well with the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier (301,000) and Weekend Sunrise (240,000).

10’s night went this way: The Sunday Project (403,000), 10 News First (230,000) and FBI: Most Wanted (214,000).
