Why Locally Manufactured & Designed, Eco-Friendly Packaging’s In Demand
Locally manufactured and designed, eco-friendly, high-quality packaging with quick turnaround times is in increasing demand and one of Australia’s leading companies is in a perfect position to respond to the current climate.
CCS MEDIA PACKAGING is one of the country’s most technologically advanced printing businesses and offers a wide range of specialised packaging and promotional products made right here in Australia. As a cutting-edge company, CCS MEDIA PACKAGING has also invested in the most technologically advanced printing press available, the Heidelberg XL 75 8 Colour. With Smart Technology and inbuilt closed-loop colour control, this press has greatly reduced the number of waste sheets needed to obtain colour at a fraction of what was previously possible.
CCS was an early adopter of process-less plate technology. Special carbon-free plate setters use heat to image and develop the printing plates. This technique completely eliminates the use of harmful chemical pollutants. This adds to CCS MEDIA PACKAGING’s green credentials as we have also invested heavily in solar technology, installing a 150KW solar power system in 2013, well before many other similar companies. We are also a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant and help clients develop packaging which has the smallest possible environmental impact. Already the national leader in entertainment packaging, we also offer high-end, luxury consumer and FSC-certified products. CCS MEDIA PACKAGING’s own carbon audit was completed in 2017 and places us well below the benchmark for the impending carbon trading regimen in Australia.
“Clients have shown an increasing interest in environmentally-friendly products with CCS offering a wide range of options for clients to support their eco-friendly initiatives,” says CEO Gerry Van Happen. “While they are not always aware of the possibilities, we are able to guide them through the process, from initial design to end product.”
While delays from several weeks to a few months in manufacturing and shipping from overseas are not unheard of in these COVID times, Australian businesses are now looking to have their packaging needs supplied locally by a company with the highest international standards. Gerry says manufacturing within Australia has many benefits that may have been underestimated in the past, particularly in the current environment. “There is a growing awareness among clients that manufacturing locally has a better outcome for them in the end and is more competitive than they may have realised,” says Gerry.
When it comes to delivery, rigid boxes from CCS commonly have a lead time of around 15 days, depending on quantity, special finishes and embellishments. But overseas suppliers need at least 5-6 weeks to deliver – and have an additional carbon footprint – when they land a similar product in Australia. Since the pandemic, some freight and logistic charges have also doubled or even tripled in some instances, and there have been unforeseen delays which have increased delivery times by up to 30-plus weeks. Given global travel restrictions and the inability to check on quality and standards of overseas-made products, the quality of CCS MEDIA PACKAGING can also be assured.
“We are able to ease the production process because clients are able to have more input into the outcome. They are able to be closely involved in the design and manufacturing process,” says Gerry who has worked with CCS for more than a decade. “This is not normally a given when it comes to manufacturing overseas and can avoid disappointments and delays.”
Naturopath and nutritionist Anna Mitsios, who created range Edible Beauty™ Australia, which is well known for its range of pure, botanical and wildcrafted beauty products, is a fan of the quality, products, service and response times provided by CCS MEDIA PACKAGING.
“CCS Media have been instrumental in facilitating our creation of a fully recyclable and sustainable packaging offering for our customers,” says Anna. “They have assisted us in seamlessly moving from a multi-component packaging design to a sleek and sustainable single carton packaging design made of recycled and sustainable materials.
“I have been most impressed by Gerry and the team’s ability to facilitate this change and we have been so impressed with the savings from both a cost and labour efficiency standpoint,” says Anna who reported reducing packing time by 60 per cent cost savings of 40 per cent price after a review of the initial packaging across the range. It is always such a delight to work with the CCS team, Gerry’s customer service ethic and dedication to fulfilling our needs is first class! I would highly recommend CCS Media for all sustainable packaging designs.”
In operation for more than 30 years, CCS MEDIA PACKAGING is a privately-owned Australian business, with a team of 30 people under the leadership of founder and owner Kevin Wilson. “Way back in 1988, when we were a small company competing fiercely for a piece of the entertainment packaging pie, that sector of business was at its peak and we needed a point of difference. We did this by focusing on special packaging and realising that by bringing the best packaging options from around the world should be made available in Australia,” Wilson said. “We also saw that streaming and downloading would eventually affect the arena we were working in so set about looking for markets beyond media but holding dear to the principles we had learnt and developed namely, reliability, creativity and value.
“So CCS has also long championed the cause for local, ethical and transparent manufacture by explaining that the unit cost from overseas (compared to local manufacture) has to factor in the cost of funds which are tied up, peace of mind in your supply chain, clear environmental consequences and unashamedly supporting the Australian economy,” said Kevin Wilson.
Based in Silverwater and delivering across Australia, CCS MEDIA PACKAGING, is considered one of the country’s top companies in customised, high-quality packaging and provides a one-stop shop for all your packaging needs, offering a 1-2-week lead time from finished artwork to delivery.
