Double J Is Counting Down The 50 Best Australian Debut Albums In September

Double J is dedicating the month of September to celebrating some of the best and brightest debut albums in Australian music!

The radio station has asked music experts from Double J, triple j and around the ABC to weigh in on their all-time favourites and we’re counting down the 50 Best Australian Debut Albums.

The list will be revealed from midday on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September for two big afternoons of music hosted by Double J’s Tim Shiel, Caz Tran and Zan Rowe, where you’ll hear songs from a huge array of genres from the past five decades of Australian music.

Plus, this month’s episodes of The J Files go deep on four artists who seemingly came from nowhere to deliver perfect debut albums – Sinead O’Connor, Pearl Jam, Wu-Tang Clan and Florence + The Machine.

Tune in to Double J on Thursday nights from 8. Meanwhile, Double J’s Classic Albums program will focus on seminal international debut albums for the month of September from Patti Smith, Björk, Arctic Monkeys and Rage Against The Machine, exploring what made them connect so powerfully at the time and why they have endured in the years since.

Tune in on Monday nights at 7. Online, we’ll take a look at each of the records in our top 50 list and what made them so special. This mammoth list will join our other 50 best lists, including the 50 Best Australian Albums of the 90s, the 50 Most Memorable Movie Soundtracks, the 50 Most Important Female Artists of the 90s, and of course our yearly 50 Best Albums lists. Listen to Double J on the triple j and ABC Listen apps, digital radio, on Channel 200 on your digital TV and online at doublej.net.au
