IKEA’s Slinging ‘Vacations In A Box’ So You Can At Least Pretend Travelling’s On The Cards

Dreaming of sunny ocean shores and better days (i.e. pre-COVID days)? Do you just want to get away?

Sad news – it’s not currently possible. However, that doesn’t mean everyone’s favourite Swedish furniture store isn’t going to try to help us feel like we can travel amid a pandemic.

IKEA in Dubai has come up with a clever idea to sell “vacations in a box” to help transport customers to far-flung destination (in spirit, of course).

The boxes were designed with the help of Memac Ogilv in Dubai and come with a selection of curated IKEA products including pillows, tableware, candles and artwork inspired by locations such as Paris, Turkey, the Maldives and Tokyo.

“Right now, many people are unable to put a tick mark on the dream destination they had planned for this year,” said Carla Klumpenaar, general manager of marketing, communications and interior design at Ikea UAE.

“With our Vacations in a Box, it’s easy for people to experience a French-style candlelit dinner or sip green tea while kneeling on cushions inspired by Tokyo.”
