TV Reporter Roasts Viewer Who Told Her To “Dress Properly” After Baring a Shoulder

A New Zealand TV reporter has savagely taken down a man who told her to “dress properly” after she appeared on-air in an off-the-shoulder top.

Hilary Barry was co-hosting the current affairs program Seven Sharp when a viewer, who went by the name of Geoff, took umbrage to the anchor’s choice of clothing which he deemed as too fleshy and youthful for such a serious program.

Geoff tweeting: “Please encourage Hilary to dress properly. Exposed shoulders are for the young.”

Thankfully, the 50-year-old Barry was having none of the criticism. She quickly returned Instagram fire saying: “Some classic age shaming from Geoff. Just for the record, I’ll wear what I like, when I like.”

Barry then followed it up with a photo of herself in a swimsuit on the beach.

“This is for every Geoff who ever told a woman what to wear or what part of her body to cover up. We will not be told. Not now. Not ever,” Barry wrote.

Barry’s stance also received praise from other social media users who said Geoff was “ridiculous” to be “scandalised” by the outfit.

Sadly, it’s not the first time Barry has been lambasted for showing off her shoulders.

Last year she appeared in a press photo, again baring her shoulders, that a female viewer said made he look like a “street worker”.

“It is time Hilary acted and dressed to her age. Off the shoulder clothing is for YOUNG WOMEN not old women, it makes her look like a street worker,” the woman, named Jocelyn, wrote.

But again, Barry was having none of it: “I am a 50-year-old woman who will continue to wear exactly what I like, when I like and wherever I like.”
