Adland’s & Media’s Representation Of Women Savaged In Striking Video

Advertising, media and society’s impossible standards towards women have been laid bare in a powerful video narrated by actor and activist Cynthia Nixon.

The video is the work of US fashion magazine Girls. Girls. Girls and sees Nixon read a shortened version of writer Camille Rainville’s Be A Lady They Said. (You can read the full version here.)

The commentary is interspersed with provocative – and contradictory – imagery aimed at women that often appears in advertising, TV shows and women’s magazines. Ironically, many of the images that appear in Girls. Girls. Girls magazine.

And it’s clearly resonating with women and men alike – the video has already clocked up over two  million views and been shared countless times. Check it out below:
