Sunday TV Wrap: Men’s Tennis Final Pulls 1.5M, As MKR Struggles On Debut

Sometimes, no matter what you do, you’re going to take a hit, so you may as well cop it on the chin and move on. This could certainly be attributable to the premiere of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals, which failed to rise as it went head to head with Nine’s Australian Open men’s final coverage, and 10’s I‘m a Celeb… finale on Sunday night.

Last night’s launch was the lowest episode of any MKR season at 498,000 metro viewers according to OzTAM, and was down 39 per cent on its 2019 series launch (819,000).

Granted, it had plenty of content to contend with last night, so it’s certainly too early to how Aussies will respond to Seven’s revamped MKR.

The Australian Open men’s final did the numbers for Nine as it pulled a whopping 1.524 million metro viewers. It’s almost exactly on par with the 2019 men’s final match, which was watched by 1.589m. On Saturday night, the women’s final saw 890,000 metro viewers tune in. Overall, the AO has been a massive coup for Nine, with 13 million viewers tuning in to watch the tennis over the last two weeks.

10’s I’m a Celeb… finale also did nicely for the network, with the finale pulling 803,000 viewers, and the winner’s announcement pulled 884,000 viewers.

Here’s how the rest of the night ran.
