Uber’s Mass Firing Of Marketers Prompts Viral Job Opening Spreadsheet

Uber’s Mass Firing Of Marketers Prompts Viral Job Opening Spreadsheet

It’s not all bad news for the 400 marketers Uber Eats let go last week.

When news broke the rideshare giant was downsizing the marketing team of its food delivery arm from 1,200 to 800, many were critical of the famously unprofitable company for stretching itself too thin.

In an email to staff, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said: “We are not making these changes because marketing has become less important to Uber.

“Many of our teams are too big, which creates overlapping work, makes for unclear decision owners, and can lead to mediocre results.”

But the 400 fired marketers might not be jobless for too long after one former Uber employee decided he’d help them find new work with a Google Docs spreadsheet.

Airbnb product manager Michael Houck took to LinkedIn to offer his hand.

“To my friends in marketing at Uber: If you were impacted by the layoffs and are now looking for something new, please reach out to me,” he said on LinkedIn.

“I’d love to help make connections for potential opportunities.”

The spreadsheet that was created to connect the former employees with potential jobs has since gone viral.

355 ex-Uber marketers have so far provided their details, while there are currently over 1,000 job openings around the world listed on the document, including roles at Google and Airbnb.

The list contains four Australian former employees, including Uber Eats marketing manager brands & campaigns Tim Medway.

The document had over 200,000 hits in the first 24 hours according to Houck.
