Assault Charge Against Veteran TV Exec Takes Bizarre Turn

Assault Charge Against Veteran TV Exec Takes Bizarre Turn

B&T can reveal that the tune has significantly changed for a case involving a Walkley Award-winning TV executive, who was charged with assaulting his wife last weekend.

The Daily Mail reported that Sky News Australia executive editor Rob Raschke (pictured above) pleaded guilty to the assault charge against him at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on Wednesday.

However, a spokesperson for Raschke has told B&T that the guilty plea was entered incorrectly by the TV exec’s former lawyers.

“Rob is yet to make a formal plea, but is pleading not guilty to the assault charge,” the spokesperson said.

Furthermore, Raschke’s informant said his wife Rachel does not intend to pursue the matter, with a hearing to take place later this month.

The TV exec is also under an apprehended violence order that forbids him from going near his wife for at least 12 hours after consuming alcohol or illicit substances.

Raschke has taken voluntary leave following the charge, with Greg Byrnes to step in as acting executive editor at Sky News, according to The Australian.

Raschke has been the executive editor of Sky News since February 2016. Prior to that, he held a number of senior news roles at the Seven Network.
