Sunday TV Ratings Wrap: Lisa Wilkinson Helps The Sunday Project To Biggest Ever Audience

New Ten recruit Lisa Wilkinson has made a promising start to her role at the free-to-air network, with The Sunday Project co-host’s debut helping deliver the show a record audience.

According to the overnight OzTAM figures, The Sunday Project captured a metro audience of 481,000 during the 6:30pm slot, which rose to 583,000 in the 7pm slot – up 88 per cent in total people on the show’s series average last year.

Unsurprisingly, Seven’s coverage of the Australian Open men’s final between Roger Federer and Marin Čilić was the most watched program, with 1.7 million people tuning in across the five metro city markets, with a national average of 2.3 million.

However, the ratings performance was well down from last year’s Australian Open men’s final between Federer and Rafael Nadal, which attracted a metro audience of over 2.6 million.

Meanwhile, Ten’s new season of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! garnered a metro audience of 1.108 million and 1.27 million for its ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Opening Night’ slots respectively – up from 1.103m and  963,000 last year.

Lagging behind was Nine’s coverage of the One Day International cricket match between Australia and England, with the two sessions holding metro audience of 969,000 and 943,000 respectively.

Looking at the networks, Seven had the biggest overall audience share on Sunday night with 42.8 per cent, followed by Nine (23.4 per cent), Ten (19.4 per cent), the ABC (9.5 per cent), and SBS (4.8 per cent).
