SBS Unveils Hilarious ‘Struggle Street’ Spoof ‘Once Upon A Time In Mosman’

Following last night’s return of controversial “poverty porn” series Struggle Street, it appears SBS is still capable of having a laugh at itself, unveiling a hilarious, deprecating spoof of Australia’s wealthiest suburb, Mosman on Sydney’s lower North-Shore.

(Check out Struggle Street’s and all of last night’s viewer numbers here.)

SBS’s satirical news series The Feed has unveiled the whacky social media stunt titled Once Upon A Time In Mosman (a play on previous serious SBS’s documentary series One Upon A Time In Cabramatta and One Upon A Time In Punchbowl) that deliciously takes the piss out of people struggling “while being stuck in Australia’s top tax bracket”.

The spoof campaign appeared on The Feed’s Facebook page overnight and stars The Feed’s satirist Mark Humphries. It’s unclear if it’s a one-off stunt or an ongoing series. However, B&T very much thinks it should be it’s that bloody good. Check it out below (and apologies to anyone who lives in Mosman or Cremorne):

However, not everyone has been ecstatic about the portrayal of Sydney’s uber posh and expensive lower north shore.

Reader comments to The Feed’s Facebook post included: “I live in Balmoral and I have never met a wanky or pompous Mosmanite. I understood during the GFC some folks had to cut down ski trips from two to one and it was considered a disaster for them (I don’t ski).” While another added: “I suppose the crack about public schools would be funnier if they weren’t (Mosman High) top of the class in NAPLAN rankings.”

While others urged to take the series further: “They need to do once upon a time in double bay. Think the accents in Mosman are bad try the South African Jewish accent. Did their hair for years. Still makes me cringe,” wrote another.
