Study: 43% Of Millennials Would Give Up Sex For The Internet

Not only are Millennials apparently the most studied generation ever, the results of the studies continue to throw-up a number of surprises.

The latest is called the Millennial Black Paper and is the co-work of Hong Kong-based youth site 9Gag and research firm GfK and it’s revealed that 43 per cent of Ys would happily give up sex if it meant they didn’t have to give up the internet (the other 57 per cent saying they’d give up the internet).

9Gag surveyed its 150 million users globally and got close to 150,000 respondents that made up the results of its “Would you rather?” poll.

Commenting on the study, 9Gag chief operating officer, Lilian Leong, said: “It’s not a myth that you have to engage with millennials to get their attention. They’re not slaves to the internet or social networks. They’re a lot smarter than they’re given credit for. And they value real friends more than their Instagram followers.”

Some of the interesting findings included:

• 53 per cent of Ys would prefer to work really hard for themselves over 43 per cent who’d take a cushy job for an employer

• 71 per cent would prefer to work in a start-up while 29 per cent said they’d prefer to work in a 9-5 job that was guaranteed for three years.

• 63 per cent say they’d rather be smart and unappreciated, while the other 37 per cent said they’d rather be average but cop heaps of praise for it

• Here’s the clanger – 95 per cent said they’d prefer 10 real-life friends while the remaining five per cent opted for 10,000 friends on Twitter or Instagram

• 98 per cent would happily lose all their selfies if it meant not losing money or valuables

• The Ys also take voting seriously with 67 per cent saying they’d give up the right to say anything on social media verses choosing their next government

• 32 per cent said agreed they’d rather play their one favourite game or sport for six months versus not playing it at all but playing other games or sport
