Telstra Recruit Optus’s Michelle Garra To Head Media

Telstra has announced the recruitment of Michelle Garra to head its media division as the marketing shake-up continues at the telco.

Garra’s appointment coincides with the recent release of its video streaming service Telstra TV. The service allow users to stream content from apps and other SVOD providers.

It is understood that Garra will also have some role to play with Foxtel and its newly minted NRL deal. Telstra is a part owner of the pay TV provider and remains the naming rights partner of the NRL.

Garra is currently vice president of retail at Optus and has had over 25 years’ experience including stints at Microsoft,  Virgin Australia and Sony Pictures.

Garra will take up her new role in the first quarter of 2016. The new hire follows a big shake-up in media and marketing roles at Telstra since former NineMSN boss Jo Pollard was recruited.

Pollard is restructuring the business amid increased competition in the telco arena, namely from its rejuvenated arch-rival Optus.
