Entries for B&T’s 30 Under 30 Awards have officially closed. But in exciting news, voting for People’s Choice award is now open.

ICYMI, in honour of our upcoming awards, we’re taking a look back (10 years to be exact), to see where our 2011 winners are now.

Today, we’re chatting with Brendan Fearn.

Back in 2011, Brendan was head of marketing for brand experience agency Play Communications. His role was multifaceted, covering strategy, account service and new business.

Now, he’s head of marketing at property group, BresicWhitney.

He said: “I made the decision to move client side 6 years ago and it’s been fantastic. It is certainly a career path I’d endorse for anyone in the industry that enjoys wearing both a commercial and creative hat. And it gives you the opportunity to take ownership of a brand and the problems that it needs to tackle.

In the last 10 years, he’s also completed an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, specialising in strategy, marketing and leadership.

Pssst – if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, you can do so here.

How did you feel winning a B&T 30 Under 30?

It was exciting! The best part was getting to meet a great cohort of like-minded people, all with a real fire in the belly!

What are you most proud of?

Helping the people around me build and growth their own careers. I find that to be more fulfilling than awards and accolades. There’s an African proverb that I think hits the nail on the head, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

What’s your favourite part about the industry?

There’s nothing more exhilarating than solving those big problems that are holding an organisation back. And that’s the exciting part about where marketing as a discipline is heading, the scope is getting so much broader. Marketers are now thinking much deeper about business models and where to unlock growth opportunities.

What do you think needs changing?

Maybe less buzzwords, haha. Jokes aside, as with all industries, we need to continue evolving and growing. It’s people with an entrepreneurial spirit that succeed in the long run.

Ultimate travel destination?

An African safari. Imagine sipping a G&T and watching the sun go down, while surrounded by animals that could eat you for dinner!
