Tech behemoth Apple has finally jumped on the voice recognition bandwagon with the launch of its HomePod device.

Aussie customers were notified of the product launch over the weekend via email, claiming the HomePod “sounds amazing anywhere in the room” thanks to Apple-engineered audio technology and spatial awareness.

With the intelligence of Siri, Apple said HomePod can also help you with everyday tasks as well as control your smart home – if you have a HomeKit-enabled device.

The HomePod can of course also be linked up to Apple Music, giving users signed up to the music subscription service another way of accessing its 45 million songs.

After announcing plans to launch it in early 2018 nearly eight months ago, Apple said the new device will hit shelves on Friday 9 February, which customers can pre-order online now.

Apple’s move comes more than a week after Amazon launched its highly-anticipated Echo products Down Under. Google was the first of the three tech companies to hit the Aussie market with voice recognition devices in July last year.
