Seven has dominated the first two days of the Australian Open reaching 6.5 million TV viewers, plus 700,000 video streams on digital platforms, with last night’s Lleyton Hewitt win peaking at almost 2m viewers.

Seven’s coverage of the 2015 Australian Open was the most watched event on TV from 7.30pm to midnight last night.

Hewitt’s four-set victory was watched by an average combined (metro + regional) audience of 1.222m on Channel 7, including a metro average of 844,000. The peak audience for the match hit a massive 1.989m Australia wide.

Overall the Day 2 – Night Session was watched by an average combined audience of 1.413m viewers on Channel 7 and 7TWO, with 971,000 in metro markets across both channels.

The results ensured Seven comfortably won the night in TV ratings with a combined network share of 30.8 per cent in the 5 City Metro market. Seven also won on the primary channel and in the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.

In prime time, Seven was up 19 per cent versus Nine and 62 per cent per cent against Ten.

The pioneering online coverage – with live and free match streaming on mobile, tablet and desktop – also saw 257,000 tennis streams last night alone, bringing the total to 700,000 in two days.

Seven’s TV coverage across Channel 7 and 7TWO has now reached around 6.5m Australians.
