Australian-based podcasting platform Whooshkaa has become the first in the world to use technology that allows listeners to hear the news and more as it appears in their favourite publication.
By partnering with Amazon and using its ‘Polly’ text-to-voice service, publishers using the Whooshkaa platform can now share audio of breaking news highlights or full stories, keeping readers on top of the facts whatever they’re doing.
With Whooshkaa, publishers can generate instant podcasts from text, in any of 47 voices across 24 languages. The Australian English version is spoken by ‘Russell’ and ‘Nicole’.
Whooshkaa founder Robert Loewenthal said: “Whooshkaa is using artificial intelligence and machine learning to continuously improve the already high quality audio content of its enterprise partners.
“Our enterprise partners can use Whooshkaa to automatically convert their stories and news feeds into audio. We are the first audio platform in the world to make these features available. Publishers can now generate a comprehensive news bulletin in real time, combining the top stories of the day into a single podcast.”
The audio option comes as Whooshkaa enters its second year in operation, having racked up a portfolio of technology and partners including News Corp, Sky News, Fox Sports, Fairfax, SBS, Bauer, HuffPost Australia, and the NRL.
Whooshkaa developer Christian Carlsson said the immediacy of the text-to-voice option and the range of languages bring limitless opportunities to any type of publisher.
“By integrating artificial intelligence with Whooshkaa’s already-powerful platform, it’s now possible to create a fully automated podcast episode from text in less than 30 seconds – and this is just the beginning,” he said.
