Two US Students Show Their Love For Fave Brands With ‘Brandsgiving’ Project

Young creative directors for the Brigham Young University AdLab, a student-run, professionally-mentored ad agency, Cat DeLong and Micah Wilkes, spent an hour a day throughout November coming up with funky campaigns for their favourite brands.

Calling their project ‘Brandsgiving’, the duo – in which DeLong does the copywriting and Wilkes does design – assigned one hour every day to work through 30 beloved brands and convey a message through bespoke campaigns.

The project aimed to improve their abilities to generate and produce work that reaches the standard for a professional in the industry.

The duo will send each company featured in Brandsgiving its work on Thanksgiving via Twitter. Click here to see all of their Brandsgiving work, otherwise we’ve popped a few choice selections below.

“We felt they were on brand, but coming at their brand from a totally different angle,” they told AdWeek of the brand Trumoo. “It would have been really easy to create a whole campaign for them because they were strategically smart.”

The pair already have attended Advertising Week in New York and rustled up a trip to LA in December to meet with various agencies – and they haven’t even graduated yet!

“I think we were especially fond of Wieden+Kennedy New York, Droga5 and McCann Erickson New York,” DeLong told AdWeek. “So if you are from those agencies and reading this, just know someone has a secret ad crush on you.”

When they land jobs in the industry, their ambitions are simple: “Make awesome work that matters and makes people smile.”
