Social media platform TikTok has announced that it could soon be the new frontier of job recruitment, particularly for companies looking to attract Gen Z workers.
As reported by Axios, TikTok will test the recruitment platform on a beta group of companies, with big brands – including sports leagues – participating.
Users will be able to open the job listing on the app, and then be taken to a web page where companies post available roles. Rather than the traditional written CV, users will use a TikTok video resume to apply.
TikTok has already been used by young people looking for work, albeit not through the traditional means of job listings.
Young people in the creative industry, particularly writers and producers, have been using the app as a portfolio for their work.
For example, Julian Bass, a special effects artist and producer, had a TikTok showcasing his work go viral on Twitter. After the video went viral, he was contacted by a number of companies, including Disney. Disney’s executive chairman Bob Iger replied to the video, saying “the world’s gonna know your name!”

With the new initiative, TikTok could use the already popular idea of video resumes to create a platform that makes job hunting more accessible than ever for Gen Zs.
