Ten’s Problems To Worsen As “I’m A Celeb” Tom Arnold Set To Sue

Following on from B&T’s article yesterday that Ten had the ignominy of being beaten by the ABC in Sunday night’s ratings comes news that for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Tom Arnold is set to take legal action over unpaid appearance fees mounting to almost $150,000.

The US actor was evicted from the program two weeks ago and was one of the first contestants off.

Showbiz reporter Peter Ford has reportedly been leaked Arnold’s contract to appear on the show and revealed its detail on the Kyle and Jackie Show this morning.

Ford alleged Ten agreed to a a $US410,000 ($A540,000) salary for Arnold and a subsequent comedy tour of Australia. Arnold claims he has only been paid $US270,000 ($A355,000) of that.

The dispute appears to be over Arnold’s early departure from the show, however, exact particulars of the contact are unclear. “Tom Arnold believes he was working under a ‘pay or play’ contract, which means you get paid no matter what,” Ford told the KIIS FM hosts.

Ten is reportedly furious that Arnold tweeted out details of the contract which could be deemed as a breach.

In a statement, Network TEN general counsel, Stuart Thomas said: “Network Ten will not discuss the terms of a confidential agreement that was signed by Tom Arnold after legal and PR advice was provided to him, but we can confirm that Ten does not owe him any money under our agreement with him and we have made all payments owing to him.

“Any suggestion that Ten has not acted in good faith is unfounded and misleading. Tom Arnold’s only agreement with TEN was for his appearance in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!.

“TEN understands that Tom Arnold’s agent and lawyer were exploring a tour option for him, however, due to his performance in the jungle, the tour operator declined to proceed with the tour.”
