Sam Kerr Named CommBank’s Women’s Football Ambassador

Commonwealth Bank has announced Australian football star, Sam Kerr, as an official brand ambassador.

The news follows the commencement of Commonwealth Bank’s game-changing partnership with Football Australia. The bank is now the naming rights partner of the Commonwealth Bank Matildas, Commonwealth Bank Young Matildas and Commonwealth Bank Junior Matildas, injecting millions of dollars into the elite women’s game and grassroots initiatives across the country over the next four years.

Sam Kerr, widely acknowledged as one of the world’s best players, recently enjoyed a memorable campaign in Tokyo. The striker became the Commonwealth Bank Matildas’ all-time leading scorer as the team achieved its best-ever finish at the women’s football tournament, and now has 48 international goals at the age of just 27.

Kerr said that Commonwealth Bank’s long-standing support for women’s sport made the alignment an obvious fit with her own desire to inspire the next generation of Australian girls.

“When I was growing up, we didn’t have female role models in football because they weren’t given enough visibility and support. So to have a partner like Commonwealth Bank investing in our game shows how far women’s football has come.

“I want to show all Australian girls that they can achieve great things through football, and my work with Commonwealth Bank will be about getting as many into the game as possible,” she said.

Kerr will join Australian Women’s Cricket Team all-rounder and CommBank Cricket Ambassador, Ellyse Perry, to Commonwealth Bank’s brand ambassador network to elevate women’s sport.

Commonwealth Bank incoming group executive of marketing and corporate affairs, Monique Macleod, said: “Our investment in women’s football is aimed at strengthening all levels of the game from grassroots to elite, and there is simply no better role model for aspiring young footballers than Sam Kerr.

“The Commonwealth Bank Matildas is a team full of inspirational women, and with Sam as captain, they are helping to shine light on the game in Australia. Coupled with our ongoing investment in cricket and with Ellyse as our cricket ambassador, we are delighted to have two inspiring women on our team and excited about what we can achieve to grow women’s sport,” Macleod said.
