Spotify has revealed the most listened-to podcasts by Australians as part of its second annual Culture Next report.

According to the report, the top five podcasts in Australia are:

  1. From The Newsroom
  2. The Quicky News Update
  3. Squiz Today
  4. 7:00 AM
  5. The Betoota Advocate Podcast

As well as showing the top local podcasts, the report also provides valuable insights into how Australians are engaging with content on Spotify.

According to the report, 76 per cent of Australian podcast listeners believe listening to podcasts allows them to connect with other people.

Podcasts also are being used to help support the wellbeing of listeners. 25 per cent of Australian podcast listeners said they listen to mental health-related podcasts.

Furthermore, 80 per cent of those surveyed globally by Spotify said podcasts served a valuable education tool, while 64 per cent said podcasts fuel self-discovery.

Spotify has been making a significant push into podcasting in recent years.

The company made headlines earlier this year when it revealed it had signed one of the world’s biggest podcasters Joe Rogan on an exclusive licensing deal, worth upwards of $US100 million.

The deal has already caused some drama for Spotify, however, with reports of staff unrest over controversial comments that have been made on Rogan’s show.

According to Digital Music News, some New York-based Spotify employees are considering a strike if Spotify is not given editorial oversight over Rogan’s content.
