Rebel Wilson Pays Bauer Journo $120K For “Total Scum” Comment

actress Rebel Wilson has agreed to pay a Bauer journalist a reported $120,000 in an out-of-court settlement, following a defamation case.

Wilson herself successfully sued Bauer Media in June after the publisher was deemed to have portrayed her as a liar in a series of articles led by Woman’s Day. The judge in the case is yet to determine Wilson’s compensation.

However, in February 2016, Wilson called Bauer journalist Elizabeth Wilson “total scum” in a misguided tweet.

The problem for Wilson was she identified the wrong Elizabeth Wilson who actually worked for Bauer’s House & Garden Magazine and not one of the women’s titles that Wilson had directed her attack at.

Wilson also alleged the journalist harassed her grandmother in February 2016.

When Wilson realised her error, she removed  the offending tweets and apologised; however the miss-identified Elizabeth Wilson decided to take legal action in the NSW Supreme Court.

The case was due to be heard last Monday, however, Wilson has since decided to settle out of court for the reported sum of $120,000.

Wilson herself has said she will donate the money from her case with Bauer to charities and local acting institutions. There has been media reports that Wilson could get as much as $7 million from her case with Bauer.
