The public relations and communication industry’s long time top performers were recognised with fellowships of the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) last night at the Annual College of Fellows Dinner in Sydney.

Fellowship of the institute is awarded to PR and communications professionals based on their contribution to the industry, leadership and demonstrated commitment to their local community.

PRIA national president Jenny Muir announced 14 new members who have been elevated to ‘fellow’ status:

  • Elizabeth Bardwell, Tom Buchan, Melanie Curtis, Karin Limon, Daniel Moloney, Margaret O’Shannessy, Joanne Painter, Jo Weeks and Tiffany White (Victoria)
  • Anthony Lowe, Elizabeth Marchant, and James Wright (NSW)
  • Nicolas Turner (Tasmania)
  • Renae Desai (Western Australia)

“Maintaining a professional career in public relations and communication for 20 years is extraordinary given the complexity of our world, but adding a significant contribution to both industry and community deserves significant recognition,” Muir said.

“PRIA fellows hold many of Australia’s leading roles in public relations and communication and deliver necessary guidance, energy and leadership for a rapidly changing profession. Our industry looks to the swelling ranks of this elite group as we navigate our future direction.”

Meanwhile, Brian Mahoney (NSW), David Hawkins and Mike Watson (Victoria) were elevated to ‘life fellow’ status, recognising their continuing contributions as fellows of the institute.
