Thursday TV Wrap: Aussies’ World Cup Game Pulls 356,000

It’s rare a catch-up channel sneaks into TV’s top 20 shows, but Nine’s 9Gem managed the feat last night with its coverage of the Australia-West Indies World Cup cricket match.

The game – won by Australia – pulled 356,000 viewers according to OzTAM metro numbers and was the 20th most watched show of the evening.

It also got Nine across the night for a Thursday night win (an evening Seven typically dominates).

Nine pulled 30.9 per cent of the audience share (all channels). Seven had to settle for a close second and 29.5 per cent. 10 nabbed third and a neat seventeen. The ABC had 14.3 per cent and SBS pulled 8.3 per cent on the back of the returning Handmaid’s Tale (262,000).

Seven’s 6pm news was the most watched show of the night with 1.020 million. Other highlights for Seven included The Chase (644,000), Home And Away (597,000), Britain’s Got Talent (421,000) and The Front Bar (440,000).

Nine’s best was its 6pm news (911,000), followed by ACA (727,000), Hot Seat (528,000), the returning RBT (516,000) and a repeat of Paramedics (396,000).

Over at 10, MasterChef did 564,000, The Project had 458,000, 10 News First pulled 440,000 and MasterChef Masterclass had 366,000.

In the battle for breakfast, Sunrise (262,000) topped Today (222,000).

The ABC’s evening ran this way: 7pm news (662,000), 7.30 (519,000) and Escape From The City (408,000).
