Australian independent media agency Atomic 212° today announced the appointment of Damien O’Brien as general manager of its fast-growing Darwin office, effective immediately.

In his new role, O’Brien will report to Atomic 212° chief digital officer and partner, James Dixon.

O’Brien joins the agency after more than a decade in leadership, business development and partnership positions in media, sales and marketing companies.

His resume includes roles at QMS Media, Fairfax Media, Macquarie Radio Network and Diversified Communications. Mr O’Brien was most recently group manager, strategic partnerships, at the sports, media, content and entertainment agency Rifle.

Atomic 212° Darwin has seen rapid growth since it was established in August last year, signing blue-chip local clients including the Northern Territory Government, Tourism Northern Territory, Charles Darwin University and Northern Territory Major Events Company.

O’Brien succeeds Ben Carroll, who is leaving Atomic 212° Darwin to pursue other business interests.

Dixon said: “In just 13 months, our Darwin office has attracted some great clients and produced some excellent and innovative work.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Damien to the team, to continue our expansion in the Northern Territory. Damien is a wonderful fit strategically and culturally and will bring over a decade’s worth of experience in team management, sales, business strategy and business development to new role.

“In addition to running the Darwin office, Damien will work closely with our vast team in Sydney of 20 people who service our Northern Territory clients.

“That team includes our head of content and creative Kellie Holt, who has a national role working across the Northern Territory Major Events Company; our general manager of media technology, Tom Sheppard, who oversees performance across the Northern Territory Government and Charles Darwin University; and Ilona Evans, our client lead on Tourism Northern Territory,” he said.

“I’d like to thank Ben for his great contribution in setting up and building our Darwin office. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

O’Brien said: “I’ve always had a passion for media, particularly developing strategy to drive practical, well-thought solutions across a variety of platforms.

“I’m greatly looking forward to making the agency move and continuing the great results achieved by Atomic 212° Darwin.

“It represents a fantastic opportunity to lead an extremely talented team up in Australia’s Top End,” he said.
