Taxi laws make way for Lion King wraps

Slingshot Media has pulled off a media first, releasing a fleet of fully wrapped Lion King taxis onto Sydney’s streets to mark the musical’s opening night in the harbour-side city.

The taxi execution took nine months from concept to production to going live, with the biggest barrier being NSW Government legislation.

The legislation meant approved taxi-signage could not be removed to make way for the Lion King livery.

But the Slingshot Media team, Desitnations NSW, Disney Theatrical Productions and Cabcharge worked together to have the legislation changed.

Beck Hamilton, senior strategist Slingshot Media, said: “It’s been a group effort; our production team led by Jonathan Worsley have done a stellar job in creating the graphics and translating them into a 3D medium.

“I’m especially proud of the fact we never gave up. We’re all about taking our clients to places previously thought impossible and we would like to think we’ve achieved this for Disney.”

A fleet of 50 Sydney cabs will form part of the opening night celebrations tonight (December 12). The taxis will be on the roads until the end of January next year.
