Cricket makes TV's top 5

Nine’s broadcast of The Ashes made it into the top 5 and was the most watched non-news program but the result wasn’t enough to win Nine Thursday night.

The Ashes: Second Test Session Three came in at number five last night with 837,000 viewers according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings.

The session second of the night’s Ashes sat in 12th place with 603,000 viewers. For cricket coverage see B&T’s opinion piece ‘The Ashes: who is more ‘feral’? The Aussies or the Brits’ for profiles of the opposing supporters.

Nine also had the most watched show with Nine News (1.234 million) but it was Seven that took the night with a combined 28.9% share of all free-to-air viewers.

Nine sat on a total 27.4% with 19.5% for its main channel. Seven’s primary channel won 22%.

Better Homes and Gardens Summer pulled in 764,000 viewers while How I Met Your Mother sat in 10th with 629,000.

Ten’s most watched show was Ten Eyewitness News (573,000) and two episodes of Law & Order: SVU won Ten 540,000 and 534,000 viewers.

Ten’s total share was 19.8% with 12.7% for its primary channel.

The result put Ten ahead of the ABC on 16.7%. ABC1 won 10.5%.

SBS sat on 7.2% with 6.2% for SBS ONE.
